The Second Amendment

Join Bill Harwood and Margaret Groban for a Lunch & Learn event on the second amendment.

This presentation will discuss the legal landscape surrounding the Second Amendment and how that landscape has recently changed dramatically since the issuance of seminal Supreme Court cases.

Bill Harwood

After 42 years of private practice, William Harwood now serves as Maine’s Public Advocate, where he works with a team of advocates representing Maine ratepayers before state and federal regulatory agencies and the Maine Legislature. During the past 25 years, he has written and lectured extensively on issues related to gun violence and the Second Amendment. He has chaired the ABA’s Special Committee on Gun Violence, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and the Maine Gun Safety Coalition. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Maine Law School, where he and Margaret Groban teach a course on Regulation of Firearms.

Margaret Groban

Margaret Groban is the former National Domestic Violence Coordinator for the Executive Office of U.S. Attorneys at the Department of Justice. In this role she was a critical resource in the Department of Justice’s efforts to implement the criminal provisions of the Violence Against Women Act and to fight the constitutional and statutory challenges to these federal domestic violence crimes. She currently consults for domestic violence organizations and teaches a firearms course at the University of Maine School of Law. She is a graduate of Barnard College and Fordham University School of Law.
